Day 2. The Ships Wheel, the one thing that puts steering a ship in motion.
The wheel is not the only part needed to steer a ship, but it sure makes it much easier! But why sketch a ships wheel? I guess because that is where change begins. The ship moves because of the turning of the wheel. And it is time to start turning things here.
This little sketch is not perfect, it is not supposed to be! It is after all just a sketch.
So what might become of this little sketch? I believe it will become an applique/ embroidery design. I have learned that applique designs need to be simplified and so the applique will be less but the colors will be more. All this is just a thought at the moment.
I did take a minute and cut the circle for the outside of the wheel. I LOVE using my Silhouette Cameo for cutting circles. I don’t know about you but my circles look like odd elliptical shapes with flat sides when I cut them out with scissors! For some of my applique, I use a product called “Templar”.
Templar is a heat-resistant plastic and it lets me press the edges under, creating a nicely turned edge for applique. (More about that when I actually work on the wheel applique)
Here is where I am starting. The rusty color will be the wheel, the tan color is the background, and I will add more as this design progresses.
So before I go, I have to tell you of a fear, it is one of experiencing ridicule because I am not a trained artist. Just to keep things real, I have never taken an art class, I am not trained in fine art at all, and I know my little sketches are not great. I also know there are 6-year-old kids that could do so much better. So rest assured I am not trying to fool anyone.
I did read a quote and I have pictured it here, I think it is important to remember that while I will always receive and appreciate constructive criticism, the 137 days of sketching is just a way to share my ideas. SO:……….
Looking forward to many more sketches and fun designs.
Until tomorrow!
