Slots, not the machines that eats coins, chips etc, the rulers that are used to cut quilt strips and quilt parts. These rulers are one of the best additions to a quilters tool box! I love these rulers. They can cut the amount of time for cutting strips by as much as 75%!
These slotted rulers guide the rotary cutter blade through a slot and allow cuts at specific increments, as an example; 2 1/2″, 5″, 7 1/2″, 10″. Cut your own jelly roll strips, cut 5″ strips, rotate the ruler and cut the strips in 5″ (charm square size) squares. There are so many possibilities when using these rulers.
There are a only a couple brands on the market and the manufacturers are June Taylor and Creative Grids.
June Taylor has a couple of sizes, one will cut up to 18″ inches long, and one is 12″ long. If I had to choose just one I would get the 18″ one, but the 12″ one is also useful, so if the longer one is not in the budget, go for the 12″ one.
The videos below do a great job of introducing the rulers.
Here is a video using the Stripology Ruler.
And the video from June Taylor.
